At Dana Street Primary school we offer a range of support for students who require it. We have a wonderful team of support staff, who work in classrooms with students and outside the classroom in a variety of roles.

Literacy Intervention – For students requiring support in Literacy, our specialist Literacy teacher implements an intervention program. This is conducted in small group sessions throughout the week, focussed on developing strategies for Reading and Writing.  The differentiated groups are based on the goals of the students and the data from assessments conducted at a classroom level.

Speech Therapy Assistant Program (STAP) – Students who require extra support in the area of speech and language are included in our  STAP program. This program runs in consultation with our DET speech pathologist and involves students accessing individual sessions with our trained Education Support staff. 

Program for Students with Disabilities- Our students with disabilities are supported by individualised learning plans. These plans are designed by teachers, with the input of parents, in order to maximise the success of students at school. Inclusion in the classroom programs is vital to the success of all our students. Our Education Support staff assist classroom teachers to provide an accessible and engaging curriculum for students with disabilities and special needs.

RDA– We are fortunate to access Ballarat’s RDA (Riding for the Disabled) program.  Our dedicated support staff travel with the students to the horse-riding centre on a weekly basis. Our students learn about the horses, become familiar with the horses and participate in riding sessions. We have also had students compete in the Ballarat show, as part of this program.
