learning wellbeing 03By enrolling at Ballarat Primary School (Dana St), you are making a choice to join a vibrant, welcoming community that is supportive of all members.

Our school values are tangible in the school. We teach them, talk about them every day and support each other to demonstrate them at all times.

Our teachers design effective lessons that engage and stretch our students. Our aim is for every child to grow and learn to their optimum level in an engaging environment. We base our teaching on our Instructional Model. Our teachers are focussed on each child’s learning.

They assess the students’ needs and explicitly teach in all areas of the curriculum. Children always know the focus of the lesson (the learning intention) and how to be successful in the lesson. Every moment is a teachable moment, and our teachers use every part of each lesson to teach; the whole class, a small group or individuals. They use high impact teaching strategies which are evidence based.

Our students are regularly given feedback. They are taught to set goals and work towards them, regularly reflecting on their own progress. Our prep students each have a grade 6 buddy. The grade 6 students are just as excited to be a buddy as the preps! The grade 6 buddies support and care for their prep buddies. We do not zone our playground areas, so students play across age ranges and learn important values along the way!

We implement strong, evidence-based wellbeing programs, such as Bounce Back, Circle Time, Respectful Relationships and Restorative Practices. Our students are taught to be thoughtful about solving social problems, and to seek help when needed. Our goal is for students to be able to develop strategies to live in the world harmoniously with others!

During the current COVID-19 situation, we are unable to hold information sessions or tours at the school.

Please contact the school by phone 533 21301

Enrolments open for prep students in term 1, for the following year.

If you are interested in enrolling your child, please contact the school for more information.

We conduct an information session for prospective parents in March each year. Tours are also available at other times by request.
Please contact the Principal, Mrs Natalie Toohey, for an appointment.

It is important for each child to have a successful and happy transition to school. To assist in achieving this we have developed a comprehensive transition program that allows kindergarten children the opportunity to learn about our school and our staff before they commence school the following year.
